Win 7 on my mac? Advice and assistance needed please!

Hi guys,

I need your smart assistance and advice please.  I had previously installed VMware Fusion on my Macbook to use it with Windows Vista.  Unfortunately, when I did this I didn't allocate enough resources and a large enough partition, so it runs like molasses.

I now have a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate in my hands - both 32 and 64 bit provided by Microsoft and HouseParty.com.  I am hosting a Windows 7 House Party, and would love to have this installed on my Macbook.  I'd like to install the 64 bit version since my machine is capable of it, but I don't know if I should install this in Fusion or Boot Camp.

If I choose fusion, would I be able to allocate more disk space and memory than what I have already allocated?  (I think this is the case)  If so, how much disk space and memory is recommended for Windows 7 Ultimate - for both 32 and 64 bit?

What would you do if you were in my situation? ....32 bit? 64 bit? Fusion? Boot Camp?

In a perfect world, I would love to buy a new machine just for Windows, as all my old PCs are too old.  However, I'm on a budget like the rest of the nation.

I'm sorry for all these questions.  I am thankful for having a great network of friendly geeks like myself to rely upon for answers to my questions.

Thank you!

Sanders Says: Feed your mind good stuff

Great blog entry to check out... sanderssays.typepad.com

This is what I do - avoid the negative media & turn it off. I don't want to allow negative vibes into my world. Tim Sanders does a great job explaining this. I couldn't agree more with him.

Amazon versus iTunes on mp3 purchases

I have been pushing Amazon over iTunes for mp3 purchases for quite a long time due to three main reasons...

  1. Amazon mp3 downloads are DRM-free
  2. Amazon mp3 downloads have a 256 bit rate
  3. Amazon mp3 downloads are many times less expensive then iTunes

Now, iTunes has finally removed their DRM for all titles and increased their bit rate to 256.  They also have the $0.69 pricing tier in addition to their other $.99 and $1.29 tiers.

Amazon has $.69 downloads as well, many free mp3s, and I haven’t ever seen an mp3 for $1.29 on Amazon.  They also have outstanding specials on mp3 albums of the day, and other highly discounted albums.  Their mp3 downloaded inputs the mp3s directly into your iTunes as well.

I applaud iTunes for taking steps in the right direction.  I also thank Amazon for bringing in some healthy competition.  Without them, we’d all probably be stuck with DRM plagued mp3 downloads at higher prices.

I guess I’ll buy from both iTunes and Amazon depending on who has the better price of the download.  Although, I do use iTunes religiously for their app store (of course) and my podcasts subscriptions.

I’m curious, which do you use for your mp3 downloads?  Amazon, iTunes, or something else?

Which school would you pick?

We are considering five different schools for this fall...  UNC –Charlotte, UNC-Greensboro, UNC-Pembroke, Eastern Carolina University, Western Carolina University.

Which of these schools would you choose and why?

Thanks!  :-) Jen

Motivational Quote

"No matter what looms ahead, if you can eat today, enjoy the sunlight today, mix good cheer with friends today, then enjoy it and bless God for it. Do not look back on happiness or dream of it in the future. You are only sure of today; do not let yourself be cheated of it." - Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1878)

Pick of the day - Meebo

I would like to share meebo.com with you.  Many of you have probably already heard of this site, but just in case you haven’t, I am sharing it here.  http://www.meebo.com/about/

I recently signed up on meebo.com.  The beauty of this service is that it allows you to connect with nearly all instant messaging interfaces in one spot – and  it is all web-based in one seamless environment.  The interface is beautiful, clean, and simple to use.  You can even add a “MEEBO” badge to your website (see the right side of my jenniferruggiero.com page for example).

It’s free and simply awesome!  Perfect for anywhere you go or computer you use since you don’t have to download an app.

Give it a whirl!

Vision board & more!

Today, I made the decision to create a vision board.  I heard about this years ago from my good friend, Shannon.  She had a board at her apartment and I didn’t quite “get” it at the time.  Now, years later... I understand.  I truly believe that if you focus on your goals and dreams and envision you’re there already, that they will become a reality.  I need this more than ever at this time, and probably all of us actually need to do this.

In addition to the vision board, I also decided to start sharing my diet, nutrition, exercise, and tech knowledge in this blog space.  I have some time to actually live my life now, and have a strong desire to share my knowledge and advice with those that are interested. :-)

More to come soon!

Update

So, I figured I’d do a blog update since I haven’t blogged in ages.

It is 1:30 AM and I am up, but about to fall asleep.  I had to take 2 Benadryl and 2 vicodin due to an allergic reaction to something.  I hope I can get up early enough to make BodyStep tomorrow morning.  Really, you’d think I’d be knocked out from this stuff, but I’m still up.  I don’t get it.

I’m still looking for a new job and really hope to return to wireless.  I have a shot.  Please cross your fingers for me!

This blog entry is worthless.  I need something to write about... some worthy topic.  Suggestions?

:-)  Jen
